hypebeast launches hypetrac

I went to hypebeast today and I saw a new link on top; hypetrak. I didnt see it before but its like hypebeast but purely for music and artist. This could be a new link I dont know but I just figured I'll throw it on here.

Isaac Hayes died too!

Damn what the hell is going on! This man was a true living legend exsisting in time.
He was a singer, songwriter, and mentor to many artist....and died at 65 years old by a treadmill.
In the early 1970s, Hayes laid the groundwork for disco, for what became known as urban-contemporary music and for romantic crooners like Barry White. And he was rapping before there was rap.

His career hit another high in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show "South Park."

Wow....Bernie Mac and now Isaac Hayes....ummm....my heart and thoughts go out to the family.
R.I.P

Invest like a Rock $tar- Thrasher funds- Gendex

Why is it that when people think about investing in stock or mutual funds people sneer up their noses? When I think about stocks I think about, old white guys smoking cigars, and pulling strings that affect the nasdaq or dow jones. But, how about the stocks that affect our world. What about the stocks that move and shake our culture. Wether it be; hip hop, punk, rock, etc....there are companies out there that do effect the flow of cash and influence our (sub)culture.
Who remembers when Louis Vutton 'everything' was the fad a few years back, to a point where you can get a fake LV purse or wallet on ebay for a few dollars, or those wholesale lists that claimed you could get cheap designer purses ( I used to be that guy..guilty as charged).

My point is that, our wall street saviors are here! Two guys in neo-urbanite cosmopolitan suits, rocking american apparel, throwing casual parties are here ready to take your money to invest in our culture....the "Gen X" world!

Thats everything from music, money, fashion and culture.

*Thrasher funds promo*

Amazingly enough, that is the name of one of their funds..it's called the "GendeX fund".
I can keep writing more about them but, its probably better to hear it better from them;

"Thrasher Funds is an investment services firm that deals with how money, music, fashion, and culture intersect with the stock market. We specialize in educating, preparing and offering money management services to a new generation of investors.
-->Money is in. It’s the longest running trend in the world. The fad that just won’t die. But for the generation that is supposed to be ahead of every curve, there’s one that they are severely behind on: making and saving money. Rappers and Rock Stars taunt them all with it in their videos by throwing it at the screen, only to have it cascade down to the ground— “Making it Rain”, as it were. But music videos only let Next Investors™ know what to do with the wads of cash once they get it, not how to get it.
Never before in history have youth possessed so much financial potential. From young professionals and entrepreneurs to entertainers and athletes, this generation earns on average, significantly more than most of their parents’ generation earned at the same time in their lives. While this next generation of investors wield this unprecedented financial strength daily in the retail marketplace, most of them have all but ignored and been ignored by the financial services industry when it comes to their potential within the financial markets. This is all unfortunate because the younger they start, the more they are able to leverage their most valuable asset: Time.
Conversely, commercials from financial behemoths implore the Baby Boomers to start planning and saving for their retirements, and/or their children’s college tuition. Now, that’s fine if you’re over 40 with children. But what if you’re not. What if you’re a child of the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s? What should you be planning for? While the parents of this youngest generation of adults are being wooed by financial institutions to grow their assets, the younger generations are being marketed to in quite a different way, to spend like there’s no tomorrow.
After speaking with scores of young, would-be investors, there are two main impediments to young people’s involvement in the equity markets: not enough money and not enough knowledge. Thrasher Funds has addressed both of these issues with its launch of The GendeX Mutual Fund and Thrasher Multimedia in late 2007. The GendeX Fund allows a minimum initial investment of $100 with a minimum monthly automatic investment of at least $50 while providing investors with a diversified portfolio of domestic and foreign companies, many of which have benefited greatly from this target generation.
Thrasher Multimedia produces web-based financial education videos through its ThrasherTV franchise. ThrasherTV distills oft times complex investing concepts into discrete and understandable information while infusing cultural and lifestyle references and distributes the products over the internet via YouTube, MySpace, BeAThrasher.com, and other web syndicated outlets.
StrategyFor all its equity portfolios, Thrasher seeks to invest in the industries, sectors, and specific companies that are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the Demographic Convergence Thesis (DCT). This proprietary model seeks to capitalize on the convergence of what the firm believes to be global, generational, and socioeconomic dynamics that touch an array of industries: the Baby Boomer's increased life expectancy, elongated career life cycle, along with Generations X and Y’s increased access to capital. There have been a plethora of articles that talk about the ageless-ness of baby boomers and the fiscal habits of the the next generation of adults. But few have examined the market implications of these demographic and lifestyle shifts.Investments in the GendeX Fund are not limited by industry, sector, or market capitalization and is not a retail fund. The firm utilizes both fundamental and technical analysis in generating its portfolio. The Gendex Fund’s performance is benchmarked against the S&P 500 Index, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and the Russell 2000 Index. The firm was founded in 2005. Equity securities (stocks) are more volatile and carry more risk than other forms of investments, including investments in high-grade fixed income securities. The net asset value per share of this Fund will fluctuate as the value of the securities in the portfolio changes. The fund may invest in small cap or emerging companies which can be more volatile than large cap companies. This fund is a new investment that has a limited investment history, and there is no guarantee that it will achieve its objectives."

Pop- Up stores..What are they?

I have been hearing alot about this so-called, "Pop-UP" shop/store for about a month now. With me being half way around the world not being about to participate in events like ... The Hundreds 5th Anniversary Pop-Up Shop the “5TH” and Foreign Family.... created a small capsule of products to round out the summer!

So after some reasearch, 2-3 google keyword searches later, I found my answer on trendwatching.com website....
"If new products can come and go, why can't the stores that display them do the same? Well, you guessed it, retail outlets increasingly do. From gallery-like shopping spaces with one-off exhibitions to mobile units bringing innercity-chic to rural areas, TRENDWATCHING.COM has noticed an increase in temporary retail manifestations around the world. We've dubbed this trend POP-UP RETAIL, as these initiatives have a tendency to pop up unannounced, quickly draw in the crowds, and then disappear or morph into something else, adding to retail the fresh feel, exclusivity and surprise that galleries, theatres and Cirque du Soleil-adepts have been using for years. To the delight of consumers, who are increasingly used to MASSCLUSIVITY and PLANNED SPONTANEITY. "

I have found some examples but, I will leave it up you to explore and discover the different types and places pop-up retail stores have graced.

enjoy.

Ok..ok...ok...
here is a good example I have found:

LEVI'S & ALIFE Last fall, Levi's partnered with alife, a hipster store/creative collective on the Lower East Side, to create a location that sold brightly colored, special edition alife Levi's at USD 165 a pair. With only 501 pairs on sale, and the store only being open from mid September to mid October, Levi's seems to get the idea the POP-UP game.

Here is a video of Breil's pop up store opening they had!

wow I still cant believe it...

why are of of our great comedians passing on like this....george carlin....chris farley....belushi! Wow this is crazy....its like i just got through watching him on ocean's 11,12,13 and king of comedy like yesterday!

our prayers and thoughts go out the family and those left behind....god bless and rest in peace...

Bernie Mac died! At 50 years old!

CHICAGO - Bernie Mac, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian who worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side, has died at age 50.
"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles. "No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family's privacy continues to be respected."

The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on Oct. 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city's South Side in the Woodlawn, and later, Englewood neighborhoods. He lived with his mother and grandparents. His grandfather was the deacon of a Baptist church.
In his 2004 memoir, "Maybe You Never Cry Again," Mac wrote about having a poor childhood — eating bologna for dinner — and a strict, no-nonsense upbringing.
Mac's mother died of cancer when he was 16. In his book, Mac said she was a support for him and told her son he would surprise everyone when he grew up.
"Woman believed in me," he wrote. "She believed in me long before I believed."
Mac started his comedy career at age 8, with a stand-up performance at a church dinner. In 1977, at age 20, he took that act to comedy clubs in Chicago.
His film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans movie "Mo' Money" in 1992. Mac went on to star in the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney and his turn with Ashton Kutcher in 2005's "Guess Who?" — a remake of the Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn 1967 classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" — topped the box office.
Mac also starred in "Bad Santa," ''Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."
The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006.
The series about a man's adventures raising his sister's three children, won a Peabody Award in 2002. At the time, judges wrote they chose the sitcom for transcending "race and class while lifting viewers with laughter, compassion — and cool."
The show garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac. He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" costars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer.
In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS' "Late Show" that he planned to retire soon.
"I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit," Mac told Letterman. "I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977."
Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack in July 2008 when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama's campaign.
But despite controversy or difficulties, in his words, Mac was always a performer.
"Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show."

Puma Rudolf Dassler Wellengang Mid

Sneaker wars....thats the first thing that came to mind when I heard the name of these shoes. Rudolf Dassler was the brother of Adi Dassler, the creator of Adidas. These two comapnies have battled over the decades for visability and market share. Starting from Jesse Owens, the first athlete to be endorsed by any shoe company, Ali, David Beckham, ect. Its worth a trip to Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com.

Puma’s Rudolf Dassler Wellengang Mid is obviously a fusion of 1970’s disco era and new millennium street flair. The result is an eye catching sneaker that feels simultaneously vintage and current. Puma has unveiled the new colorway of the Rudolf Dassler Wellengang Mid. The shoes boast a high, thick, beige sole, with vibrant and intentionally faded hues. The Gold looks aged next to the electric blue and gray giving it a faded copper coloring on the side of the sneaker. The classic white laces also give the sneakers a striking balance of colors. The Puma is now available at the overkillshop.

Who doesnt want a Batman Cave.....

After watching "The Dark Knight" the other day I found myself thinkinh back about the past batman movies and the possible reality of half of the gadgets and cool things Bruce Wayne had. I dont know about anyone turning a tank of a car (tumbler) into a motorcycle after its been destroyed is possble. But doing some research, I found out that having a batman cave is!

I was shooting the shit with some co workers about this and they laughed...." a batman cave"...."yes a batman cave!" Think about it! You can only pimp a car so much, you can't rap about drugs, bitchs and money forever, movies plots seems to be recycled from studio to studio, etc.

That would be one hell of a conversational piece if nothing else.
Imagine this:
Your house has secret passage ways, nooks and crannies for what ever reason. But one of them lead you into your underground batman cave. Inside that cave you would have whatever a guy would that owns a cave would have in it. but here is the great part....when you are driving home you can drive into the cave just like batman. So all you ballers and rich folks out there, you can know park your ferraris, masserati's or what you got in your bat cave.

I know it sounds weird but just think about.
better yet just google it and see how many caves are for sale.

jay electronica

Yo the first time I heard of this guy....I had the same reaction had when I found out that sido ( "Super Intelligentes DrogenOpfer" translation...super intelligent drug victim --or--"Scheisse in dein Ohr" translation....Shit into your ear). and bushido had beef (german artist)...."what the f^%k"!

Jay is on a totally different level along the lines of, andre 3000, common, and maybe cee-lo (he is just on a different level all together) which is probably why Ms. Badu has signed him to her label Control FreaQ Records. Well as the fact that he will be her new child's father doesnt hurt.

even NAS is co- signing him and has metaphorically taken him under his wing creating smooth scores of never-ending poetic work.

I have found some ya'll might like!

When you hear it, just tell me what you think!

Whats in a name!

What's in a name? And what does your name mean to you? Family names, hippie names, wildly creative names-what does your name mean for your sense of identity? Social science research has found that the names we are given at birth carry substantial psychological weight. We learn to define ourselves by the names we are given.
But how can a name mean so much? Your name can lay the foundation for your personality. For instance, one may find that a young girl endowed with a birth name that is considered to be particularly feminine may appear to develop a personality based on her sense of femininity. This may be traced to the simple fact that her parents, by giving her such a name, may be establishing an environment where those aspects of her personality are encouraged and nurtured. Giving a child any kind of name, whether it be popular, creative, regal-sounding, or based on family or ethnic heritage, can have substantial influence on how they form their identity.
Some individuals live their entire lives saddled with names they despise. Can a name mean a lifetime of resent? Maybe not, but the effect of a name should not be underestimated. Although most people eventually come to terms with their given names, the option of changing your name legally is a viable one exercised by those who simply can't live comfortable with their given moniker. In fact, the practice of legally changing one's name has become so acceptable that many states have made the procedure much simpler than it used to be.
Since a names meaning can carry so much weight, it comes as no surprise that they are usually chosen with great care. Expecting parents who want to find the most suitable name for their child commonly research names meanings. With dozens of books about the meaning of names in print, names meanings are easier than ever to research. The Internet is perhaps best place to research a names meaning. Exhaustive name databases are archived on the Internet, allowing you to research online the meaning of almost every imaginable name.
When choosing a name for a child, make sure to consider not just what the name will mean for you. What will the name mean for the child? Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I want to impart a sense of my child's ethnic heritage or family history? Many people are named after beloved family members. But children should never be named out of a sense of duty. Only choose a family name if you genuinely like the name and truly want to honor the family member who currently carries the name.
- Is the name currently popular? Does it matter to you if the name may eventually go out of favor? Never name a child simply because the name is currently popular. Names go in and out of favor all the time. If you truly like a name that happens to be quite popular, be aware that your child may grow up and go to school with other children who share the same moniker.
- What kind of influence might the name have on my child's sense of self?
Remember that their name is the first inkling most people have of their personality. Many people attribute aspects of their personality to their name, so be aware of how your child's name may be received by your child and everyone she encounters throughout life.

What a prime example of a name that someone has lived up to to the T!
----------------------------

for brand names..........
A brand name is part reputation, part familiarity - not to mention the unquantifiable/psychological thrills that a consumer gets when he or she purchases something that bears his or her favorite brand name (such as a Porsche or a LV handbag). The concept of the brand name first arose with the advent of advertising and mass media in the 1930s - further compounded by the advent of the 40-hour work week - which allowed consumers more time to enjoy the things that they bought (it is not a coincidence that Disney was founded during this time - as people were working too much to watch cartoons prior to the 1930s and as its major asset was its brand name). For readers who are interested in reading more about "branding," you can surf to the Interbrand.com website. The article on the Top 100 Global Brands is a must-read.

Staple x New Balance...they have done it again!!!!

Jeff Staple is becoming a legend, if he isn’t one already. He’s an innovator, and really should need no introduction. He’s been shaking up the sneaker world with global collaborations, innovations and sick design for a long time.

The almost mythical pigeon derived from the minds over at Staple Design is set for a comeback, three years after its Nike SB Dunk Low’s release sparked wide-spread chaos and panic amidst the streets of New York. This time around, jeffstaple and crew look to New Balance’s trail runner the 575 as the cornerstone of their latest sneaker inspiration.

In an in-depth interview with Sneaker Freaker, some pressing issues are featured including what reactions are expected out of the Nike camp as well as jeffstaple’s reasoning behind reliving a historic shoe which, he mentions changed the face of the sneaker world. For the shoe itself, the color placement is actually quite similar to the original SB Dunk including the pigeon-foot orange seen on the lining and sole (as you can see above). Also seen is a new embroidery on the heel featuring a flying pigeon to go alongside the original standing pigeon( as you can see below). Following up on Staple Design’s recent involvement with Lomo, a Pigeon-colored Lomo camera will also release ( see below). Singapore has already announced an August 6th release at Leftfoot Singapore and Le Vault.

This guy was one of the lucky ones who coped the first pair that was sold in australia.
